Marcia Hansen-McCauleyMarcia Hansen-McCauley, BSN, RN: Bariatric Care Coordinator/Clinical Manager for Advanced Surgical Associates, P.A., is a graduate of the College of Our Lady of the Elms College with a BS Degree in Nursing - 1983.   Marcia is a member of the Obesity Action Coalition, American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, and The National Association of Bariatric Nurses, Inc. Marcia comes to SC after 4 years as a Bariatric Consultant for Centers of Excellence preparation and over a year as a Bariatric Nurse Coordinator in Connecticut. She has a varied nursing background including Respiratory, Spinal Cord Injury and Traumatic Brain Injury Rehab nursing, Ob/GYN - Labor & Delivery as well as Clinical Research in medical device.

Marcia has been involved with ASMBS and the National "Walk from Obesity" for the last 6 years and has been recognized for her efforts nationally in 2006 for winning #1 for Fundraising efforts and in 2007 #2 for Fundraising efforts while working with the Connecticut Committee in Connecticut while she was working as a Bariatric Consultant and then as a Bariatric Coordinator. Marcia moved to Myrtle Beach, SC in December 2007 to join Dr. Donald Balder as the Bariatric Care Coordinator/Clinical Manager for Advanced Surgical Associates. In June, 2008, Marcia worked with the ASMBS and OAC to assist with coordinating efforts for the National "Walk on the Capital" in Washington, D.C. In September 2008, Marcia established the first Annual Eastern South Carolina "Walk from Obesity" with major sponsors of Advanced Surgical Associates, P. A.; Dr. Donald Balder, Rivertown Surgical Center, Conway Medical Center and Native Sons, Inc. all of Myrtle Beach, SC and with MUSC of Charleston, SC.  Approximately $5000.00 was raised for this first effort. 

Marcia meets with each weight loss patient for individual education and works with the surgeon(s) to ensure every patient is prepared for surgery.  She is then available post-operatively for individual consulting.  Marcia also facilitates the Bariatric Support Group which is held the 3rd Tuesday of each month starting at 6:30 PM and held in the Administrative Auditorium of the Administrative Building at Conway Medical Center.  Another of Marcia's responsibilities is for the management of the day to day operation of clinical issues related to Advanced Surgical Associate's practice.

Marcia looks forward to working with the Grand Strand community and the Bariatric community in South Carolina.  She looks forward to assisting the local community through education to appreciate that Obesity is a disease not only affecting adults, but now the children of South Carolina.

 

Business Manager:  Donna Tomlinson.  Donna has been with Dr. Balder for many years; moving with him from the Florence area to the Myrtle Beach area.  She remains an expert in "CPT coding" and can assist you or your family thru the FINANCIAL PROCESSES involved with elective or emergent surgical needs.  She is a dedicated member of the team who can assist you at any point in the process with insurance or other administrative issues.

Tracy Reid, RN: Is the RN in the office who assists Dr. Balder in all in office procedures, appointment scheduling, any issues related to your office visit, prescriptions, insurance forms and phone triage.

Sabrina Johnson: Is a key member of the team who is responsible for scheduling and insurance for weight loss surgery.  Currently she is our "bariatric laison".  Sabrina works closely with Marcia (Bariatric Care Coordinator) to assist each patient through the process to weight loss surgery and initial post-operative period.  She will be assisting you with appointment scheduling, insurance application and issues, as well as assisting your surgeon(s) during your office appointments.  She also assists with our surgical office patients and their day to day needs.

Nakisha Frazier and Kathy Cook: They are both members of the office team who will be assisting you with appointment scheduling, insurance application and issues, as well as assisting your surgeon(s) during your office appointments.

Registered Dietitians in our office, at Advanced Surgical Associates and Conway Medical Center: We utilize certified dietitians experienced in managing patients going through weight loss surgery. They will provide you with education and support before your surgery, during your hospital stay and post-operatively.  Our in-office dietician Kelly Snow, RDLD (missing from photo), sees patients for an initial screening, a pre-op visit and the a post-op visit approximately six weeks after surgery.  The dieticians can be seen post-operatively for continuous follow-up after the 6 week visit appointment as needed to answer questions and help you to achieve your weight loss goal.  They are a valuable source of dietary information both before and after surgery.
